Knowledge is power ,is a famous proverb often attributed to Sir Francis Bacon.In his famous work Meditations Sacrae published in 1597,he mentions that Knowledge itself is power. All achievements emanates from this. It is a power which always remains with the person in all good and bad times.It would be more accurate to say that the ability and the will to act on our knowledge is power. Knowledge differs from wisdom. Knowledge comes from learning and education whereas wisdom comes from everyday experiences.It is the ability to use knowledge in a practical and intelligent way. Some people believe that money is power There is no denying the fact that this statement seems to be true but it is not so.Money can provide us temporary comforts and luxury but Knowledge is the key to lasting success. If we want to progress in life we need to gain awareness, information and skills that come from knowledge. Knowledge equips us with power which leads us to success. Competencies developed through knowledge help us manipulate that knowledge. Since the primitive stage of civilization man has been using his knowledge to understand the intricacies of  nature through the power of his knowledge. Knowledge empowered him to invent and achieve a lot in life.The history of subjugation of one race by the other is also the result of the power of knowledge. The English ruled most of the nations in the world .They had the ability to know the weakness of the nations they ruled.The literate and educated class could exploit the illiterate and uneducated  class because they possessed what the others did not.Knowledge is power,that is why we take terrible pains in its attainment. There is no end to the horizon of knowledge. Swami Ramkrishan Parmhansa says :“With increasing knowledge life expands and flourishes.When I cease to learn ,I cease to grow.“If we want to keep pace with the changing needs of time we should update our knowledge to become smarter with the power of knowledge.
