Student Empowerment through Value in Education(SEVA) is a positive and attractive programme of Him Academy Public School. This innovative programme is designed to involve all stakeholders (parents, pupils, management and teachers)to create a value based society, not by preaching but by practising values. It is the whole system of education imparted in school. School is the reflection of society and the playfield of social activities. SEVA is the moral aspect of this whole programme. It is the part and parcel of school programme. It is a well established fact that a valueless society is a society of savage people. Gandhi ji once said : “The things that will destroy us are politics without principles, pleasure without conscience, wealth without work,knowledge without character, business without morality, science without humility and religion without sacrifice.“ This statement certifies the importance of values in every sphere of life. The aim of education is not the knowledge of facts but of values. This leads to self realisation. People may listen to what we say but they will only believe in us what we practise. These values signify the qualities of students that make them useful, important and respectable. SEVA programme includes six such values as are useful,important, sinificant and valuable from educational point of view and has a bearing on education. They are Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Integrity, Care and Cyber Wellness. All these have social, cultural and ethical bearing. The aim of this programme is personality development of students, creation of good citizenship, development of character, promotion of social efficiency and positive thinking. We understand that human behaviour is governed by these values. This is determined by the standard of right or wrong. Children at school are the nursery of a nation.We wish our nation to be a strong one with men of character. R W Emerson has very aptly said : Not gold but only men can make A nation great and strong Men who, for truth and honour“s sake Stand fast and suffer long. HAPS creates opportunities for students to practise these values not only at school/hostel but also at home. Six working days from Monday to Saturday are associated with six core values mentioned above. Monday, for example, is associated with the first value respect. On this day students are acquainted with all such activities as are associated with “ Respect.“ Their conduct and etiquettes are manifested in their behaviour and they are given a positive feedback in the form of “Smiley“ students are made to realise the importance of each value and are encouraged to make it a part of their life and living. The cooperation of parents is also sought after. Teachers work as role model for the students.
