The Role of Trees

September 11, 2023

Natural environment encompasses all living and non-living things occuring naturally on earth. The physical environment consists of air, water and earth. The biotic environment is composed of living organisms. We cannot think of the one without the existence of the other. Trees are one of the most important components Of living organisms on earth. Human existence is sustained and supported by trees. No natural resource can exist in isolation. We depend on trees for food, shelter, medicines,wood-products, breeding stock genetic and climatic stability. Our socioeconomic development to a larger extent depends on trees. All life forms on earth are interdependent and interrelated. The future human well being depends on the well being of total biodiversity on the surface of earth. Unless we go green, we cannot make earth sustainable. Trees are the medium of our affiliation with the biological warld. They maintain the ecological balance. Trees not only beautify the earth but also provide us with so many things. They are the oldest living organisms on earth. They absorb carbondioxide from the air and provide us oxygen. One tree provides enough oxygen for five people. They filter our water. They store roughly half of the world“s terrestrial carbon. The also give protection to the wild life. They absorb light energy from the sun and produce food. They protect us from environmental pollution. They provide clean air to humans which results in better human health and longer life span. They regulate the rainfall and check soil erosion and floods. Trees protect water catchment areas and provide fodder and shade for livestock and humans besides production of timber. Trees are the cylinders of oxygen on earth. Let us nurture nature by planting more trees.
