Interview is not the test of knowledge, it is the test of skills. It is a purposeful communication between two people. It is a tool of selection for various jobs or for admission to academic or vocational courses. It is a technique used increasingly for selection to various posts in the public and private sector. The employer knows that the selection of an inefficient person will damage the interests of any institution or organization. A person with negative bent of mind may lower the morale of his colleagues and co-workers. He may disrupt the unity of the organization. The aim of interview is to select a suitable candidate for jobs or for admission to various courses. In the present time when time and distance have reduced this world to a global village, it is necessary that the candidate should have a knowledge of such events as are happening all around besides his keen interest in the particular field for which interview is held.For such selections other methods like written tests, intelligence tests and group discussions are also employed. But the final selection is made only after the formal interview. Thus the aim of interview is to assess the suitability of a candidate for the job at hand.Special attention these days is paid to assess the over all personality, the intellectual pursuits, social traits, presence of mind, alertness and critical power of observation. At UPSC, SSB Boards and other interview boards, the interviewers are the finest brains of the country.They direct such questions as may bring out the latent qualities of a candidate. Candidates should ascertain and understand the techniques of interview correctly. The traits are inferred from the answers given by the candidate. Candidate should know that it is only the quality that sells in the market.He should have general knowledge on matters of general interest. He should not try to prevaricate. It will adversely his clarity and vision. He should have cheerful appearance and smiling face.He should give exact and right information about himself. He should not mislead the interviewer with his wrong answers.He should have an optimistic attitude He should also be particular about his dress and address.
