Education is the all round development of the personality of a child, his body, mind and spirit.Learning is the central theme of education. It is the change in behaviour brought about by activity, experience or training. Its scope also embraces changes in interest, attitudes, beliefs, values and goals. Learning situations cannot be confined to classroom situations alone. It goes on all the time whether in school or outside it, wherever children have experiences which modify their behaviour. Experiences outside classrooms are often more valuable than those in the classrooms. They are also direct and the learning is more lasting and precise. Behaviour cosists of an organism“s external reaction to an enviornment. Rusk says that education does not mean teaching people to know what they do not know but teaching people to behave as they do not behave. Knowledge is the outcome of learning. Prof. Yashpal says that knowledge is created not delivered. Delivery of contents ensures only 5 per cent learning. It has to be supported by text book reading, AV aid, demonstration and group discussion. Active involvement of students in the process of learning is most desirable. We have to turn students as life long learners. We have mainly two learning approaches. One----Convergent approach. It is the basis of intelligence. Its criteria is speed and accuracy. Two----Divergent approach : It is the basis of creativity. Its foundation is novelty and originality. It is also called logical or lateral thinking. It is scientific thinking and is the soul of creativity. It is the need of the hour.
